

My Grandpa turned 83 yesterday. 83 Birthdays for this great guy!
So here are 83 fun facts and things I love about my Grandpa.
1.) He was born on October 9, 1924
2.) He married an amazing woman Treva Hindmarsh on May 5th, WOW....61 years!
3.) He had 4 beautiful daughters and is a loving and caring Dad.
4.) He served in the Marines and loves his country.
5.) His sense of humor always keeps us laughing.
6.) He loves spending time with his grandchildren.
7.) He named his boat after me, The "Jenny B. Boat" That's right my dear cousins read it and weap....I guess I was his favorite.
8.) He can name the tune of any song and will tell you who sang it.
9.) He has a beautiful voice. I used to try to come up with sneaky ways to hear him sing. Like pretending to forget the words.
10.) He goes to church every Sunday, and loves the Lord.
11.) He loves animals.
12.) He feeds all animals of any kind that come to his yard, and talks to them like they are real people.
13.) He talks to squirrels.
14.) He loves to debate, so don't even try because you will lose!
15.) He is always right.
16.) He is very compassionate and loves his family.
17.) He has the coolest Old Model T Cars and trucks, and he used to take us for a ride in them up to the Viking to get an ice cream. We would sit in the Bumper Seat. So fun!!!
18.) He has 12 grandchildren.
19.) He has 11 great grandchildren of which 4 are mine.
20.) He names animals funny names like blacky and browny dependent on their color.
21.) He always tells me the speed limit and the keeps me updated on all traffic laws. Thanks Grandpa!
22.) He has 5 brothers.
23.) He prays with his family at mealtime.
24.) He loves Ice Cream! Especially Maple Nut.
25.) He lives in Boise, Idaho.
26.) He worked for Frito Lay for years and got a super cool ring from them of which he will tell you he got working on the pyramids if you ask.
27.) He loves to go on walks.
28.) He once sent me to my room crying because I wasn't holding my spoon the right way.
29.) He helped me learn to waterski. I believe his exact words were - " Get out there and try it you big baby". Hilarious!!!
30.) He loves nature.
31.) He always has time to spend talking with me.
32.) He has the most amazing ear lobes ever, and he will tell you he got this trait from the elephants.
33.) He has the biggest garages ever, of which one of them was home to the famous "CANDY TRUCK".
34.) He drove to Spokane for Jeremys graduation and to Chase's Baptism to support my family.
35.) One of my favorite memories with him is when I was little I would sit on his bathroom counter and watch him shave. I think he still uses the old fashioned brush and soap. I loved that he would tickle my face with the bristles on the brush.
36.) He can carry on a conversation as long as you would like to. No loss for words!
37.) He is very smart.
38.) He raised his family to be good people.
39.) His first name is the same as my Dads and my Grandpa Smarts.
40.) His full name is Eugene Ezra Showman
41.) He has a memory like an elephant, he never forgets anything.
42.) He loves to tell you about history.
43.) He used to rake the leaves into huge piles so us kids could jump in to them.
44.) He put up with living in a home with all girls.
45.) He will sit and listen to me play the piano when I am there, even though I can hardly read a single note and could play for hours.
46.) He always would tell me how good I did at whatever I was doing.
47.) He is happy.
48.) He loves life.
49.) He doesn't like to have his picture taken, or at least he pretends he doesn't.
50.) He used to take us to Lucky Peak to go boating.
51.) He can waterski great!
52.) He has a camper on the back of his truck that they always used when we went to McCall camping. I remember sleeping on the top bunk while parents were playing cards by the fire.
53.) He has cool old toys at his house to play with.
54.) He loves my grandma and wonders why she puts up with him.
55.) He loves music.
56.) He has had 82 previous birthdays, WOW that's lot of candles to blow out!
57.) He never wants you to buy him anything, he tells you to "SAVE YOUR MONEY".
58.) He doesn't like airplanes and will avoid flying at all costs.
59.) He doesn't like Peanut butter,cheese, or Eggs. "Well you know where they come from don't you"???
60.) He loves Ice Tea.
61.) He is a worry wart! He passed that one on to me.
62.) He told me that there are 3 things that have yet to be perfected - airplanes, microphones, and zippers.
63.) I love listening to him giggle. Yes that's right giggle...he has the best laugh ever.
64.) He makes up funny little jingles about everything. Sometimes they ryhme.
65.) He loves to watch his grandkids and great grandkids play sports.
66.) He goes to New Meadows more than he comes to Spokane to visit me. No, I am not jealous...not at all.
67.) He makes me feel good about myself.
68.) He always lets me come and stay with him even if I call the day before I am coming.
69.) He is a handsom devil.
70.) He has a lot of really cool old antiques.
71.) He is very loyal.
72.) I love to be around him and never feel like I have enough time with him.
73.) He is very good at saving money.
74.) One time when he was visiting me he must have driven all over town to find the cheapest gas which may have saved him a penny at the pump but cost him an hour of his time.
75.) He is a good friend.
76.) He likes to get mail.
77.) He doesn't have a computer and says he doesn't know how to work them.
78.) His new car got 37 miles to the gallon the last time he drove to Spokane.
79.) He has a comfy recliner that I always want to sit in when he is not.
80.) He reads to my children, and they adore him.
81.) My Mom looks a lot like him.
82.) My brother Matt has his ear lobes.
83.) He is loved by so many people and I hope he knows that.
So these are some of the things I absolutely love about my grandpa. I hope you had a great birthday grandpa. I LOVE YOU old man!

I've been reading your blog for the last 4-5 hours and cry and cry and cry . . . what's up with that? I am deeply touched by your 85 and 83 things about Treva and Gene. They are without a doubt the most wonderful grandparents alive. I also hope they live to many, many more years.
