Washing Machine Flood

So today was crazy!!  I got the kids out the door to school and was making Shaylie breakfast before heading out  to workout.  Jeremy started a load of laundry before he left at 7:55 a.m.  As I was putting away the milk from breakfast I heard what sounded like rain on the ceiling above me.  I thought “wow it is really pouring outside” until I realized that was not the rain it was the washing machine flooding.  I ran up the stairs to find water all over the  Laundry room floor. I quickly shut off the water and started throwing towels down to mop up the huge mess.  Right then the phone rang. I ran downstairs to grab the phone and I couldn’t believe what I saw.  Water pouring out of my ceiling in the hall between my kitchen and my dining room right by my computer.  It was actually pouring out of our canned light in the hallway. AAAAHHH!  I yanked the computer out of the wall and moved it to a safe place then hurried to get all of the water off of my wood floors.  As I am running back and forth cleaning up this mess.  I start to see the ceiling crack and beads of water form along a line on my ceiling.  Can I just say that this day is not starting out well.

I got all of the mess cleaned up although I must have soaked a good 25 towels leaving lots of laundry to be done and no washing machine to wash them.  I called the Insurance Agency and had a couple of people come out to assess the damage.  Really not as bad I thought.  The most of the damage was to the ceiling and the washing machine itself is broken. It could have been so much worse.  The problem was that the washing machine did not stop filling up.  Even though the lid was closed it continued to fill until it spilled out the bottom and went threw the walls.

If I had been on time to workout this morning, I would have not been here when this happened.  I can not imagine the damage that would have been done to my house.  We would have had thousands and thousands of dollars worth of damage.  I am so thankful I was home and able to stop it quickly.  Jeremy says he can fix the washing machine, UGH!  This makes me crazy since it could potentially break again and I am going to be completely paranoid every time I start the wash.  I wish he would just buy a new washing machine and let this one rest in peace.

I hate it when things like that happen. What a bummer. I'm so sorry. I am glad that you were there and that you didn't end up with more damage. You are making me want to lower my insurance deductible!
